On the other hand, extending BART proper to Antioch would not have required acquiring additional (and specialized) rolling stock (not to mention unique parts and tools)or building and equipping an additional maintenance facility. Very few additional employees would have been needed, and the transfer station would not have needed to be built. However, it should be remembered that eBART as constructed is not what was originally planned; if they had been able to use the UP r/o/w to go to Brentwood, the DMUs would have made a lot more sense.
