I wonder how it would look nowadays, taking into consideration the FLIRT concept (where the diesel version has its own short carbody containing up to 4 diesel motors (as it is the case in the electro-diesel trains for Greater Anglia)).

In general, as I am not just so aware of bi-level DMUs, DMUs are single-level, and that might cause some issues with platform lengths.
