They were "beloved" by the rail fans.....they'd foam out and shoot pictures all day out at Industry. Not so much by the crews or hogheads.

I addition to the enjoyment of permanent lung capacity loss to the hoghead from the stack fumes, they also had very good braking, and can pull tonnage, as this video would indicate. So they were often used on the Industry hump jobs, way back when....

It's only may second biggest turkey, though......

First place goes to the U-50's (another foamer favorite....), which was truly awful, in almost anything you could design or engineer wrong, and is possibly the worst diesel electric road unit design ever manufactured... Which probably had something to do with the "vast" numbers of U-50's that were subsequently ordered from GE...…
