The first post & link provided by OPRRMS ( thank you ) is worthy reading. Southern Pacific was well involved in upgrading their diesel locomotives; however they were very careful in the titles and descriptions used, as they could involve higher shop labor rates as well as higher taxes paid for units considered to be rebuilt to the extent of being considered " new ".
As the linked Utah Rails article states, Espee never officially assigned a new model designation to their diesel rebuilds; the GE U-25-B Sulzer rebuilds were named by M-K.
