Lucin Cutoff Access

My brother in law is an off road enthusiast and was asking me about driving across the Lucin Cutoff. Apparently on some of the online forums he frequents on the topic, it is somewhat popular. On those sites, he has been told it is not marked as private property and is not secured.

I assured him that it is private property and that he would be cited if he takes that drive, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone knows more about it than I. Have any of you made this drive? Is it private and marked as such? Any thing else he should know? I appreciate the feedback and help.
