If you look at a topographic map, it's surprising that the 24th St. car even made it to Douglass. It's steep up there.

Another interesting comparison would be the 1941 streetcars to the trolley bus routes of that era and the early 1950s, then again about 2000. Market St. Rwy. had a couple of trolley coach lines, including the 33 with its hairpin turn at Market and Clayton. After taking over, the Muni converted most of the Market St. Rwy. lines to trolley buses (except for a few gasoline then diesel lines). Some (like the 5 and the 14) still run on essentially the same route. A few more were added (converted from diesel operation), and some adjusted, in the 1990s.

Did the Muni have any trolley bus lines before the Market St. Rwy. takeover?
