Ever done a construction project?

A - It is a bridge. Working on or near water complicates things immensely.
B - They need to demolish / remove the old path / bridge. I for one would appreciate them not just dropping it into the river.
C - It is 2.5X wider than the old one, so I bet they need all new footings, piers / supports, wider access at the ends, etc.
D - Again, they need to take some care to avoid flushing stuff into the river. Which I as someone who boats / dives / swims in the area appreciates.
E - Set up detours, get in equipment, get out equipment, etc., etc.

These things take time. Take your time, please do it right.
