That is a story I did not know or forgot. When I was in school for an art history course I put together a short paper on Francois Mansart. I was most impressed with Maisons Lafitte, a model home designed by Mansart for a subdivision. So when I got to Paris in 1970 I made a beeline there. I remember the historical posters there said most everything was intact except for furniture burned by the Revolutionaries ca. 1789. Fortunately they did not repeat the Bastille, which was torn down stone by stone.
Also checked out Val-de-Grace, which was IIRC partly designed by Mansart.
