All must remember that this forum is also a form of the media, which, from my observation over the past five years, has its own share of controversy. Look at the sparring "experts" on the Metrolink wreck, who do you believe? The railfans have their opinions, professional railroaders, then reporters have theirs. If a reporter calls the Union Pacific the Pacific Union, who really cares. Look to Trains magazine and their corrections page, every month a number are posted.
As a nuclear physicist, I occasionally have the opportunity to be interviewed by the local media on our project. Sadly, much is lost in the translation between oral and written versions.
Life is too short to worry about the written word, even the latest expensive railroad books have mistakes! We must "consider the source" and understand that everyone has a right to their opinion, oral or written. I learned many years ago not to believe all that I read.
If you do not trust a newspaper, or its reporting, just don't buy it, why aggravate yourself. Leave that to driving.
