You can also still see where the SP put in spring switches to speed things up. Tied into those were block signals. After a train went by on the main, you would get a green out of the siding in the opposite direction.


This was all ABS. Surf had a board that the operator used if the DS told him. Just a signal to take siding or to go up the main. Santa Barb had wait signals in both directions.

There were S/S and signals at:

Concepcion EB
Sudden E & WB
Surf E & 2 WB

Margarita WB
Bradley WB
Salinas WB (ctc)
Castroville 2 EB (ctc) 3 WB
Watsonville 1 EB (ctc)
Logan 1 WB (ctc)

Sargent had 1 EB (ctc)
Gilroy WB
Coyote EB

Things may have changed since the 60s, 70s & 80s.
