RUMOR: UP is starting to lay off mechanical forces at Hinkle, Oregon and may be closing the hump there.
The implosion is proceeding as scheduled.
One interesting thing I noted when UP announced this is what it didn't include - Didn't really claim the service would become more efficient, better for or attracting new customers and traffic (aka income) or an investment in long-term growth.
It is simply a method of getting their operating ratio down to please investors and Wall Street, make the remaining managers bonuses, and once the dust has settled leaves them with a core system that they can rebuild concentrating on only the traffic and lines they consider makes them enough $$$$$$$$$$$.
