That's not the last train to Sausalito, although the text beneath the title admits that. The last train, in 1971, was pulled by an SW1500 which brought a caboose and boxcar to be parked in front of Zack's Restaurant. I still have the newspaper article with photo around somewhere. By that time, the SP #1000 was long gone.

The caboose they set out in Sausalito remained for quite a few years, but I don't know what eventually became of it. For those around Marin in the '70s, it was the one on which someone spray-painted "Who killed Karen Silkwood?"
