The wires will end at San Jose or maybe Tamien. Gilroy trains will still be diesel. Unless they get "electrodiesel" MUs, they'll need to add a diesel in San Jose to get to Gilroy, or passengers will have to transfer to a diesel-powered train (using some retained gallery cars?) there.
NJT had the electric on the south end and the diesel on the north. The train ran from NY to Philly with the diesel dead in tow. At Philly, they fired up the diesel, dropped the pan on the AEM7, and ran out to Atlantic City with the electric dead in tow. Reverse on the return, using the AEM7 as a cab car with the diesel pushing to Philly, then shut down the diesel, raise the AEM7 pan, and head back to NY with the diesel as a cab car. Funky, but it worked for weekend trips where surplus equipment from the weekday commute could be used. Changing ends really didn't take long. Call it the excess-equipment implementation of electrodiesel.
