the real story is Amtrak's move via lobbying for legislation demanmding states pony up for shorter length LD trains. Of course, if Amtrak were seriously rider friendly (and smarter) the Cardinal would run 7 days--which aside from drawing more customers because of greater convenience, also dilutes the "fixed" costs of each station.
