You're absolutely right there. UP's use of the Terlyn treatment began after the extensive repairs were conducted.

I honestly wouldn't know and I'm not sure why a "large" locomotive would make any difference. Here's my statement: I use the Terlyn treatment in softened water along with an oxygen scavanger in my boilers, have for many years, I like it, it works for me (and no, not in "miniature" boilers although a lot of model boiler owners use Terlyn). I'm not prepared to say any more as I'm not eager to open myself up to a pissing contest over this. It'll either work for UP or it won't.
