When I rode the last Rio Grande Zephyr to make it to Salt Lake City, April 14th, 1983, we ran at 70+ MPH, on jointed rail, for quite a while around Thompson & Green River, Utah. Then the next day on the detour route home to Denver, some official at Union Pathetic decided the old CZ cars were not capable of such high speeds, and slapped on a 55 MPH speed restriction, on the WELDED RAIL Overland Route across Southern Wyoming !!!
