I am wondering what jointed rail has to do with this? Well maintained jointed rail is actually safer than welded rail which is more susceptible to sun kinks. The key here is well maintained. No low (hanging) joints and welded/ground rail ends. On good jointed track you'd never know the difference by the ride.
