I stand corrected on the Amtrak 6-hour rule. I don't work for Amtrak so I couldn't remember the particulars. The Doc is right, 6 hours trip time, not on-duty. Bottom line, no Amtrak engineer is by him/her self in the cab for 12 hours on a regular basis, which is common on freight trains, so comparing them is irrelevant.

I know for a fact that the carriers sweep a lot of RCO incidents under the rug so it doesn't appear to be as dangerous as it is. My carrier certainly does.

You must either be in management or live in a vacuum.
