Crow Butte St. Park, Washington.
Telephoto would work, and OH MY, a campsite!
Ferndale - Bellingham, Washington.
Interesting patch of railroad. Not too many trains, but a nice grade from the port. The south Chuckanut area is interesting as well. Requires hiking from many places.
Just north of Dorris, California.
Never seen any photos from here. I didn't have time to stop when I was there, but the little section was notable when I was passing through.
Huntington, Oregon, and points east of the town to Idaho. Great morning shots! Never saw a train there, but I sure wished I had. Road is narrow and curvy, so you pretty much have to shoot from the road there. Lots of angles.
Closer to home:
Nicomen on the CP, near Deroche, BC. Constant sunlight, rock wall with tracks at the base. Small canal in foreground. Shared trackage points CP and CN trains Eastbound. The best viewing angle for trains.
