I am really hoping that when UP 4014 comes out to California in October they are planning on doing a loop route for the southern California excursion trip in which after the excursion they head north to pass through the Sacramento area and cover the western end of the transcontinental route this year. The western half of the transcontinental route between Ogden to Sacramento seems like it is getting ignored for the 150th anniversary celebration year based on the early schedule announcement and hints of the possible routing to and from the Los Angeles area for October. Based on what has been speculated as the route, they will just go out to the LA area via the Las Vegas route and return back to Cheyenne over the same route missing Donner Pass and the Central Pacific/Southern Pacific western half of the transcontinental route. I really hope when they are done with the excursions in the LA area they head north up either via the Coast Route or over Tehachapi and up the valley through Bakersfield and Fresno to Sacramento so that they complete the entire transcontinental route this year in their celebration before returning to Cheyenne. I believe the last steam up the valley through Bakersfield and Fresno on the former Southern Pacific line was SP 4449 after meeting with UP 844 in 1989?
