There is another good reason to bypass Schellville. When Sonoma Creek floods Schellville yard floods. In addition to that the ROW through the fields, from the south end of the yard to Wingo, is now California Fish and Game property. They do not maintain the levees like the farmers used to so they periodically blow out and the fields flood. This causes the ROW to act like a levee, which it is not designed for, so the water starts working its way through until it erodes a hole and washes the ROW out. A new ROW from Wingo to Steamboat Slough can be built with big pipes going through so when the field floods the water pressure can equalize and not blow the ROW out. The ROW up to Schellville yard used to have that feature but new management didn't understand what it was for and closed off the holes. Since then the ROW has been washed out about a half dozen times in the last 50 years.
