The main reason was that the interchange between the NWP and SP was Schellville yard. It was operated that way right up to when the California Northern took over.

As I understand it the Wingo to Ramal section was for passenger trains running Sausalito to Napa. It would be interesting to find out more info on how it was used - did they change crews at Wingo or did they have some sort of agreement for the crews to run on the other railroads tracks? How long was the line in operation? I read somewhere that it was out of service by the early 1930’s. According to a guy I met fishing by the remains of the Steamboat Slough bridge, the bridge was still there into the 1950’s. It burned when some fishermen had a fire in an old barrel to keep warm and the bottom was rotted allowing the fire to get into the bridge timbers.
