Older equipment is always more desirable to move at the rear of the train. Depending on the railroad, some rules require the locomotives to be entrained behind the power with all of the mu hoses connected; some haul power at the rear with only the brake pipe connected to make the locomotive act like a freight car...we have moved equipment both ways...UP wants it one way; BNSF the other.
