Train Riders Association of California (TRAC) has two board meetings annually either on the Starlight or at LAUPT and a lot of us stay at the Metro Plaza Hotel, 711 North Main Street, Los Angeles CA 90012 (http://www.metroplazahoteldowntownla.com/content/). I'm not fussy and it's not plush, but it's $80/night. Two blocks from the station. Truly in the heart of Old LA.
