All BART cars were trucked in. They were manufactured by ROHR in Chula Vista and never saw rails until they arrived in the Bay Area.

I had some ex-Navy buddy who worked for BART in the early '70s. He said cars would arrive from ROHR with stencils and seals saying the car had been tested and certified at the plant, but when they opened the equipment doors the circuit boards FELL OUT. Things had just been slapped together and shipped. Every car's control and power systems had to be completely rebuilt from scratch and tested before it could run. The U.S.Navy should have gotten the credit for getting BART running - most of the shop techs were former USN Electronics Technicians and could fix damn near anything.
