Looking at their weekend schedule it looks like they are only running two trains. Weekdays it looks like four. So there should be two extra trainsets sitting around on weekends. The first weekend train into San Rafael is at 11:20. Seems like they have most of the morning to do testing before the first train comes into the station. There are two tracks into San Rafael station so even if the test train is sitting on one of the tracks the other one is clear for the scheduled run.
How much testing do they have to do to see if the circuit works? Can't they put a shunt on it and see if it activates? I know they had problems with the trains not activating the signals on the first segment but can't they apply their lessons learned to this segment?
As far as making the public know that there are trains running wouldn't it be better to demonstrate that in the daytime than the middle of the night?
