Well, those repeaters were not fcr crew use, they were for dispatcher use. When SP still existed, they determined that these were needed to cover "dead spots". When UP came along into the picture after the merger, UP decided that there were not needed, and I will back UP up all the way on it, yes, they are not needed. UP Communications department did tests after they took them off the air to insure that they weren't needed and it has been that way ever since.
