One passage from the article really jumps out, quoting MH general manager Ron Kaufman:

“The equipment that’s for sale is either excess equipment or equipment that’s being replaced by an upgrade, Kaufman said, and any potential equipment sales would not impact Mt. Hood Railroad’s daily operations.
“Everything is moving forward in a positive direction, and we’re looking forward to a busy Christmas season,” Kaufman said.”

What’s fascinating about this is that MHRR’s entire current locomotive roster is up for sale. Either they’re not expecting the power to sell that quickly, or they have “upgraded” replacement power coming from somewhere, or they plan to sell tickets for Christmas trains that never actually move, or the whole IPH organization is operating in fantasy realms right now. I read in various places there’s at least some interest in reestablishing local ownership and control, I just hope there’s enough of a railroad left for that to happen, barring of course a successful IPH reorganization.
