I think U.P. made out pretty good with their trackage rights on the ex - Northern Pacific line through Spokane. The NP line is almost entirely grade separated above city streets, just a few blocks to the South ( left of picture ) of the old line.
The GN line really sucked, with many grade crossings and the bridges over Spokane River on either end of the depot to make switching fun. Everything on Havermale island, except the clock tower from the depot, was demolished to make way for Spokane's EXPO '74.
