Richard, you must be referring to the ghetto areas of Eureka where all of the grade crossings had a 2mph speed limit, and the city required that a guard, walk preceding the train while firing a rifle into the air every minute to warn away any pedestrians that may wander onto the tracks. This was, of course before Eureka converted all of the row's to dedicated roads for electrified GGT buses.
