I can only comment about a few cabs that I rode/DH in. The best one were the UPs. This from brakeman/conductors comments.
They had passenger type trucks. Other reasons I was told is that the main frame was a poured with concrete base under the floor.
I was on a Coast train one day as the engineer and we were at Burbank for two. I walked up to shoot the bull with the operator while we waited. Then we watched as the first east bound that went through the plant at speed. (There were two hacks on the end, the last being a UP.)
The SP went through, bucking from side to side. The UP went thru like a passenger car.
That's my guess. Oh the SP cabs were a noise box too. Rattles, bangs, etc.
