Beautiful picture. I'm old enough now, thank you, but if I was 5 years older I'd have probably ridden behind the 4-8-4 on my occasional "fantrips" from Royal Oak to Durand on #21, then back on #56. Alas, the only 4-8-4 I rode behind on that route was either CNR's 6167 or 6218 on Michigan Railroad Club excursions.

The GTW used to have a nifty "Shoppers Special" on Saturdays. You rode in on one of the morning communters and back out on an afternoon one for 75 cents. Friends of mine and I used to make a "trip" out of it by riding in on #56, giving us about an hour at either Brush Street Station or Milwaukee Junction, then back on one of the commuters. Alas, the only steamer I ever saw at the Junction was Dick Jensen's 4-6-2 when it was stored there for a while in the mid 60's. Thank you for posting this shot......
