I have been flying since I was not quite 3 years old, as my dad was from Pennsylvania and my mom from Cleveland. It wasn't until I moved to Puget Sound in 1995 that I began to develop a very profound Fear of Flying. Some if it is due to the wonderfulness of landing at SeaTac Airport, with its' North - South runways and prevailing West - to - East cross - winds off The Sound. The takeoff from Orange County used to be bad, too, with their Noise - Abatement " Let's CUT the throttles back on initial climb - out " Bull$#!t. Thankfully today's airliners are hushed down enough to not need such stupidity. ( Speaking of STOOPID - why do rich people buy houses UNDER the takeoff flight pattern, then sue over the noise from an airport that has existed since 1940 ??? )
Much of my Adult Fear of Flying has come from meeting the people that build those airplanes. LOTS of Substance Abuse among the IAM crowd, and each one of them believes THEY are the single MOST Important person at the entire Lazy - B !!! And the stories they have told me, of various assembly line screw - ups, 757 fuselage sections not lining up, ( we just lined the sections up with come - alongs !!! ), and now this latest attempt "... to avoid the estimated $8.5 Billion cost of re - certifying the aircraft...", which has already cost Lazy B at least that much, with more write - off's to come.
Boeing has taken a HUGE HIT to their reputation, ( " If it Don't say BOEING - I ain't going " ); but I believe the FAA has also had their oriface stretched out too. Lack of Oversight, too much wink - wink, nudge - nudge crap; Lotsa Blame to Go Around here.
