When the SP's talking hotbox detectors were first installed, they used a female voice, and it was so well done that it sounded like a real person talking. The dragging equipment detectors were outfitted with a male one. Later on, the female voice was changed (it sounded more like Deanna Troy), and the new one had enough pauses and inconsistencies of inflection that it was clearly computer generated. The "Majel Barret" voice is an urban legend; instead the SP used an operator from the general office's telephone exchange.
