yep, a little event usually referred to as the "Loma Prieta Earthquake". When they rebuilt the so called Cypress section of the Nimitz (aka I-880) it came right thru this area. The track was moved to the right and behind where I am standing and the new freeway came thru the same area.
Where the train is sitting is now a road. The depot, badly damaged in the quake, still stands as does the tower, but I understand that some of the section with the upperlever train shed, remnant of SP's East Bay electric operations, has been removed.
