On my last trip to the area, I spent two days railfanning at the Fullerton Amtrak/Metrolink station and had no problems. It has good accessibility and sightlines, and 100-plus trains on even the average day.

On weekdays, there are about 50 or so passenger trains (Amtrak Pacific Surfliners and Southwest Chief, and Metrolink Orange County Line and 91 Line), and about 90 or so BNSF trains, mostly intermodal (including several locals that, at the time, were still using ex-Santa Fe cabooses as shoving platforms).
