North County Transit's Sprinter trains share the Oceanside-Escondido line with freight trains that operate over the route at night after the Sprinters shut down for the day. This is one of the former Santa Fe lines that Watco will operate as part of its California Sun RR.
Two other regional rail operations in the U.S. also employ temporal separation:
New Jersey Transit's River Line operates on the Trenton-Camden line during the day and Conrail Shared Assets (CSAO) freights use it during the overnight hours.
Capital Metro in Austin, Texas, when it starts up its MetroRail service, will operate by day on the former SP line between downtown Austin and Leander, which is also used by shortline freights at night. Both Cap Metro and the River Line use Swiss-built diesel LRCs, variations of the Stadtler GTW.
