His caption says Sunset Limited, 1988. I didn't realize Pooches were running at such a late date on any western trains.
In 1993, when the Sunset Limited wrecked in the "Big Bayou Canot" accident, the train was led by one GE Genesis P40DC and two EMD F40PHs (says Wikipedia). No Pooch.
For the record, I can't stand the nose of the Pooch! It's like the GE designers ran out of money, so they just made it square.
