Screwed the Pooch

His caption says Sunset Limited, 1988. I didn't realize Pooches were running at such a late date on any western trains.

In 1993, when the Sunset Limited wrecked in the "Big Bayou Canot" accident, the train was led by one GE Genesis P40DC and two EMD F40PHs (says Wikipedia). No Pooch.

For the record, I can't stand the nose of the Pooch! It's like the GE designers ran out of money, so they just made it square.

Amtrak 712 - 3/6/1988
Running on Southern Pacific rails, Amtrak’s Florida to California “Sunset Limited” led by a GE P30CH diesel had just completed their El Paso station stop a short time ago and is now crossing the Rio Grande River and continuing westward towards Los Angeles. – For this shot I am standing in the state of New Mexico while everything that you can see on the other side of the railroad bridge is over in western Texas. -- March 6th, 1988 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
