On a WW2 ship, we had 4 big FM main engines, 2 forward engineroom and 2 after engingroom. Yes, we barred them over when setting fuel pumps and inspecting stuff inside. 2 fuel pumps and 2 injectors for each cylinder was lots of barring, but we were young and strong in those days.
