Wow, almost 500 for Penn Central--didn't know that.
I grew up along the NYC/PC/CR. My earliest railroad memories are of black worm logo GP7s and GP9s and Century green cabooses. We'd get semi-excited when a low nose Geep went by.
After Conrail took over and did a lot of track work we started seeing six axles but GP38s and Dash 2s still handled the majority of mine traffic.
My father retired in 1986 with CR 8118 leading on his last run. It's 34 years later and Dad's been gone for a while now but she's still at it.
Four axle GMs still bring a smile but they're getting to be like hen's teeth around here.
