Museum happy to get the SD-9 even without traction motors. One of two SD-9's purchased by the
Great Northern with dynamic brakes for service on the Oregon, California and Eastern. SP and
GN switched off operation of the OC&E every 5 years. This unit, GN 1730, BNSF 6125, BN 6125,
GN 598. Built 5/58. Long hood forward and 24 brake schedule. (GN was a late adopter of the 24
brake valve sticking with the 6BL until it's last order of GP-9's and these SD-9's)
The former GN 599 nee BNSF 6126 was the second SD-9 for OC&E and the unit donated to Skykomish, WA and is now likely to be scrapped.
