It failed to leave Mt. Shasta on the morning of July 3rd. I was looking forward to running it but when the train arrived in Oakridge it was not on the point of the Amtrak locos 142 and 136 as I'd been told it would be during the previous evening's Portland - Oakridge deadhead trip. Having just seen the picture that Matt posted, it's just as well as far as I'm concerned. I was looking forward to running a 24RL again but Matt's picture shows that the air had been converted.

We departed Oakridge at 6:40 PM as Amtrak train #TS956 to Eugene and then as train #TS957 Eugene to Beck (on the Coos Bay line) where we arrived at 12:10 AM. The next day we departed Beck at 2:20 PM as train #TS960 and arrived in Portland at 11:58 PM, two minutes before going dead on the hours of service.

While I didn't get to run the anticipated 24RL, the 8ET on the 700 on Amtrak train #TS917 to Wishram on July 6th more than made up for it.
