A look at Joe Strapac's Southern Pacific Historic Diesels - Volume 18 - ALCo & GE Diesel Switchers, reveals the following:
Southern Pacific ALCo Products S-4 # 1551 was the 1st of a 7 unit order, class DS-119, delivered in March & April, 1955. Renumbered as SP 1829, class AS 410 - 6 in 1965.
A photo of SP 1551 taken on Sept. 24, 1965, in Ogden,UT., appears on pg. 60. A photo of re - numbered SP 1829, taken Sept. 18, 1975, at "... Purdy Metals Scrapyard at Lakepoint, UT.", appears on pg. 71. It's possible this engine spent most, if not all, of its' Espee career in Ogden; not unusual as Utah was an ALCo stronghold for SP, UP, even DRGW, for many years.
Further clues as to the photo time-frame include the boxcar red Erie Lackawanna boxcar, as E-L's original paint scheme for boxcars was grey with maroon lettering and logo, through at least 1961.
The blue Chevrolet Pickup seen at extreme right is at least a 1963 model, based on the tailgate sheetmetal and lettering.
