It should be noted that New England does not have a Mediterranean climate. Take Burlington Vermont as an example compared to Napa.

And these are averages. It is getting drier because of climate change and natural variation adds to that. In Northern California we are still waiting for the first soaking rain and SoCal has it worse. They still have working fires. PG&E has made some dumb moves, but at the moment they are between a rock and a hard place.
