UP in Spokane was terrible about this. They would idle their geeps all weekend, and first thing Monday morning, they'd go blasting up the 3% grade in the Mica Hills with a good sized train setting fires all along the way. UP also did the same thing in Marshall Canyon. The power off the MHKSK would lay over in Spokane during Sunday. The MSKHK would leave Monday afternoon after the power was well carboned up. It would be notch 8 starting at Sunset Junction, and by the time the train reached Marshall, the locos would be all warmed up and throwing sparks like mad. Unfortunately for the railroads, there is plenty of basis for the lawsuit.
