And that's why various malls ended up having two Macys stores. The same happened with Liberty House in California and later in Hawaii. In SoCal, Broadway and Bullocks got eaten up by the Macys Borg as well. And now the mighty Macys is pretty much down the toilet as well.

I grew up going to the Big E on Market St. in SF, with its rotunda, seemingly dozens of escalators going every which way, huge toy and model (including trains) department, and of course the Christmas attractions on the roof at Holiday time. Later on, you could get off BART at Powell St. and walk directly into the store's basement floor.
