I'm glad to see that the siding is being used. We kind of figured that it would end up being wasted when the agreement with the EWG to operate the new spur was finalized. There's a bit of (un-interesting to most) history about it. The siding (a 1300' long runaround) was a design feature in the original design submittal. During the planning process, it was eliminated as a cost-saving measure. On the final plan set, it was included as an additive alternate. At pretty much the very last minute, it was put back in--even though by then, the County was taking a LOT of flack locally due to the cost of the project. The project cost itself didn't run over, but Real Estate "issues" made some local headlines. Two additive alternates were thrown in (the other being the addition of the turnout at the north end and keeping several hundred feet of old track in place instead of just cutting the line and re-aligning a hundred feet of old track).

Glad to see that the County is getting something out of the investment and that the EWG can also save a few bucks on gas.
