Immersing a tie in a tank and then pressurizing the tank is "pressure treatment". The pressure treating involves drawing a vacuum first, followed by the application of pressure. This drives the preservative into the tie quite a ways, while plain-old "dipping" merely treats the surface of the wood (and is not very durable).
