A few metro areas' commuter rail systems used RDCs which did NOT abandon the service, but instead replaced them trains comprised of locomotives and passenger cars. Specifically:
Boston (former Boston & Main and New Haven services and maybe even former New York Central/Boston & Albany service)
New York (Long Island Rail Road)
Washington, DC (Baltimore & Ohio)
Dallas/Fort Worth (Trinity Rail Express operated some RDCs, but replaced them with locomotives and passenger trains).
