Hey, WTCX309. I was born in Longview, in 1949, and the Weyco (now CLC) track ran through my grandpas' back yard, at 1220 Ocean Beach Hwy. One of my first memories of anything is the old house shaking, and windows rattling, when the big steamers rolled by. I lived there for a while when young, and when I would hear the whistle at 15 th. St. crossing, I would drop everything and run out to the track. The engineer would always whistle off for me. One day the train stopped there, and my grandpa put me up in the cab, and they let me toot the whistle, and sit in "the seat". I was probably 6 yrs. old then. The old house is long gone, I think there was a Sizzler's parking lot there when I last looked, but my memories of the old engines, and one-log loads are fresh as yesterday. My Dad worked at Long-Bell, and my Mom once lived in Ryderwood, in an old boxcar on the siding. John Jones.
